Bodo Sahitya Sabha is an organization for promoting and development of the Bodo Language and Literature in a Bodo society. Joy Bhadra Hagjer founded the Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 1952. The foundation day of BSS, 16 Nov, is celebrated as Bodo Literary Day annually by the entire Bodo community, especially the Bodo Sahitya Sabha. The BSS also celebrate the following events:

What is Bodo Sahitya Sabha?
Joy Bhadra Hagjer founded the Bodo Sahitya Sabha on 16 Nov 1952 and became the first president of the BSS. BSS aims to promote Bodo language, literature, culture, and heritage. On 16 Nov, Bodo Literary Day, also known as BSS Foundation Day, is celebrated.

After the Independence of India, the Bodo Intellectuals realized that they needed to preserve the Bodo language; the early Bodo authors studied in schools and colleges where the medium of instruction was Assamese or Bengali.
Bodo people realized that education is the critical component to the overall development of any community, so they decided to preserve, develop and promote the Bodo language.
After much struggle, the Bodo language was introduced as a medium of instruction at the primary level on 18 May 1963 and the secondary level in 1968 in schools of Assam. The Bodo Medium Day has been celebrated as May 18 since then.
