Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary: Second Protected Habitat For Golden Langurs

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on Chakrashila Hill, falling under Kokrajhar district and certain areas of Dhubri district in Assam, India. This hill was first declared as a reserve forest in 1966, and later, on 14 July 1994, it was officially declared as a sanctuary by the Government of Assam. Nature’s Beckon, a local environmental activist group played crucial role in the establishment of this sanctuary.

Chakrashila Sanctuary Location

The Chakrashila wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 45.568 square kilometers (4556.8 hectares). It has north to south running hills and two lakes, Dheer Beel and Diplai Beel, on each side.
