Joyanta Basumatary Political Career
Joyanta Basumatary, a member of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) alliance Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is an Indian politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament in the No. 1 Kokrajhar (ST) Lok Sabha Constituency, Assam, after the the 2024 Lok Sabha Election.
Previously, he was the MLA for the 31 Sidli area in Assam following the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election, and he also served as the Vice-President of All Bodo Student Union (ABSU).
Lok Sabha Election 2024
Basumatary won the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 election. He is the candidate for the NDA (BJP+UPPL+AGP) alliance from No.1 Kokrajhar ST Constituency. The Lok Sabha election in Kokrajhar, Assam took place on 7 May.

Personal Life
Joyanta Basumatary, aged 48, son of late Tarun Ch. Basumatary is a resident fo Mainaguri Tangabari, Kajolgaon in Chirang district. He completed a Bachelor of Arts at Bongaigaon College under Gauhati University in 1999.
Basumatary is married to Nijara Goyari, who works as a Lower Division Assistant at Senior Secondary School, Kajalgaon. They have two children: a daughter named Zilmil Basumatary and a son named Mulug Swrang Basu.
