About Kokrajhar
Kokrajhar, located in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam, is an autonomous area. Kokrajhar town serves as the headquarters of Kokrajhar district and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), which was constituted under the sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India in the year 2003 after the signing of Memorandum of Settlement on 10th February 2003.
Originally part of the undivided Goalpara district, Kokrajhar was carved out as a Civil Sub-division divided from the Dhubri Sub-division of Goalpara district in 1957. Kokrajhar started as a small town with a railway station and later became a district on July 1, 1983.
Kokrajhar district in Assam has five assembly constituencies: Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dotma, Baokhungri, and Parbatjhora. All of these constituencies are part of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.
