About Durand Cup

The Durand Cup Football Tournament was founded in 1888 in Shimla by Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, the former Foreign Secretary of British India from 1884 to 1894.

As the world’s third-oldest football tournament and the oldest in Asia, the tournament holds an important part of football competition in India. Over the years, the tournament has awarded three trophies and they are:

  1. Durand Cup (it’s a rolling trophy and the original prize)
  2. Shimla Trophy (it’s also a rolling trophy and is first given by the residents of Shimla in 1904)
