The Assam government has introduced the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme on 12 February 2024 to help more girls pursue higher education. Regardless of their financial situation, girls in Higher Secondary, Degree First Year, and PG First Year can benefit from this program in government and Venture Schools, Colleges, and Universities.
This scheme application process for colleges under this scheme starts in July, while for universities, it begins in September. Students will receive the benefits of this scheme through direct transfers starting from 6 October.

Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme Financial Aid
The 2024 Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina scheme provides financial aid as follows:
- Class XI students: Rs 1,000 per month for 10 months, totaling Rs. 10,000.
- Graduation 1st year (B.A./B.Sc/B.Com) students: Rs. 1,250 per month for 10 months, totaling Rs. 12,500.
- Post Graduation 1st year (BEd/M.A./M.Sc/M.Com) students: Rs. 2,500 per month for 10 months, totaling Rs. 25,000 (by merging Mobility grant under Pragyan Bharati scheme with Nijut Moina scheme)
Students can receive benefits for 9 months in their first year. Following that, they simply require a certificate from their educational institution confirming their enrollment to continue receiving benefits.
MMNM Scheme Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, the applicants must be a permanent resident of Assam. Furthermore, the girl students need to maintain discipline and follow all institute rules and regulations.
However, certain students aren’t eligible for this scheme:
- Daughters of MPs/MLAs and Ministers
- Married girls (except PG and B.Ed students)
- Recipients of scooters under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme
- Those enrolled in private institutions.
Direct Benefit Tranfer (DBT)
Over 2 lakh girls expected to benefit from this scheme which aims to increase higher education enrollment and combat child marriage.

Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Payout
The Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme fund has been distribuited respectively and over 1.6 lakh girls received their first instalment on 6 Oct 2024. The CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that in the month of October it will be done through a bank draft and starting from November the funds will be disbursed through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
