Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma: Born on 28 February 1948 in Bhatarmari village, Kokrajhar, Bineshwar Brahma was the son of Late Taramoni Brahma and Late Sanathi Brahma. He served as the president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and was recognized for his social worker within the Bodo community in Assam, India.

Bineswar Brahma who is also known as “Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma,” dedicated his life to uplifting the Bodo language and literature. His efforts led to the inclusion of Bodo in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and its recognition as an official language of Assam. He was instrumental in establishing the Directorate for Bodo and other tribal languages. Frthemore, he also played a key role in promoting peace talks between the Assam government, the Indian government, and various Bodo groups.

Bineshwar Brahma was shot death in Guwahati on 19 August 2000 by members of the NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland).

  • He served as the General Secretary of the Students Body at Kokrajhar Higher Secondary School and later at Assam Agricultural University from 1969 to 1971.
  • During the Assamese Language Movement in 1971, he was imprisoned for 45 days in Dibrugarh .
  • In 1989, Brahma became the organizing secretary of A.B.E.F.
  • From 1990 to 2000, Brahma held several high positions in the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, serving as-

Every year on 19 August, Subungthini Thandwi Late Bineswar Brahma death anniversary is observed at his burial place Chandamari, Kokrajhar. On this day, Bodo community, along with Family, friends, and supporters remembers his contributions to literature, education, and social harmony.

Bineshwar Brahma was assasinated by the NDFB members in Guwahati on 19 August 2000.

1. Bineswar Brahma Engineering College

The Bineswar Brahma Engineering College was established in Kokrajhar in 2008. It is located in the Chandrapara village, approx 5 km from Kokrajhar town.

2. Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma Bodoland Knowledge Centres

During the BTR Budget 2024 sessions held on 18 and 19 June at the BTCLA House, Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar, officials from the region announced that the BTR Government had iniated the establishment of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma Bodoland Knowledge Centres in 204 locations across BTR.
