United Peoples Party Liberal: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is a political party in Assam, primarily active in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). It was established in 2015 and is committed to fostering peace, development, and socio-economic progress in the region, especially following years of conflict in the Bodoland area. Its headquarters is located in Kokrajhar town.

The party is currently in power in BTR, led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro. UPPL is alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL)

The UPPL political party was formed on 5 August 2015. The party stands for sustainable development and lasting peace in the BTR districts of Assam.

The UPPL political party is the second regional party in BTR, Assam after Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

UPPL Party Election

BTC Election 2020

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Election 2020 was a significant political event in Assam, particularly for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The elections were held in December 2020 for 40 seats in the BTC.

The political contestants in the recent elections included the United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Indian National Congress (INC). Although they BPF secured the highest number of seats with a total of 17, it was the UPPL, with 12 seats, that formed a coalition government with the BJP, which won 9 seats, and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP). Pramod Boro was appointed as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTC), marking a significant change in leadership and governance.

Assam Election 2021

The Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2021 was held in three phases: March 27, April 1, and April 6, 2021. This election determined the 126 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) for Assam.

The Political contestants include BJP, INC, and Regional Parties.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): Led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, later succeeded by Himanta Biswa Sarma as the face of the government. The BJP-led alliance won a majority with 75 seats (BJP: 60, AGP: 9, UPPL: 6).

Indian National Congress (INC): The main opposition, part of the Mahajot (Grand Alliance) with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and other parties. The Congress-led alliance secured 50 seats (INC: 29, AIUDF: 16, others: 5).

Regional Parties: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) allied with BJP.
