1. Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary
Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Assam, having been declared as such in 1952 through notification No. FR.199/52 dated July 10, 1952. Located in the Karbi Anglong district, Garampani is famous for its hot springs and waterfalls. The sanctuary covers a total area of 6.05 sq. km and is surrounded by Nambor Sanctuary. Visitors to Garampani can spot various animals, including tigers, elephants, gaurs, bears, sambars, barking deer, rhesus macaques, hoolock gibbons, and wild pigs.
2. Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary
Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1972 in the district of Nagaon. It covers an area of 70.13 sq. km. This sanctuary is a part of the Laokhowa -Buracha.Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1972 in the Nagaon district. 3. Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary
The Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1980 and is located across two districts: Udalguri and Baksa. This sanctuary covers an area of only 26.22 sq.km and was created to protect and conserve the pygmy hog and hispid hare. Visitors can explore the sanctuary from November to March.
4. Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary
Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1966 and is located in the districts of Dhubri and Kokrajhar. It is known for being the home of the golden langur. The sanctuary covers an area of only 45.50 sq. km. Visitors can observe various animals, including golden langurs, rhesus macaques, and leopards. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to April.
5. Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary
Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1974 and is located in the Sonitpur district, which covers 44.06 sq. km. The Sanctuary is a part of the Laokhowa – Burachapori ecosystem. It comprises a mosaic of wet alluvial grassland and riparian and semi-evergreen forests dotted by wetland and river systems.
6. Pani Dihing Wildlife Sanctuary
Pani Dihing Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1996 and is located in the Sibsagar district; it is a rich wetland ecosystem and covers an area of 33.93 sq. km. Pani Dihing is the place for a relatively high concentration of Geese and other Migratory birds. Visitors can visit from November to March.
7. Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary
Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1997 and is situated in the Jorhat district, which covers an area of 20.98 sq. km. This sanctuary features semi-evergreen forests and patches of evergreen vegetation and human settlements. It is named after the Hoolock Gibbon, the only ape species found in India. It is also home to various bird species, including the Indian Pied Hornbill, Osprey, Hill Myna, and Kalij Pheasant.
8. Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the 1987 and is located in the district of Morigaon; it has the world’s highest density of horned Rhinoceros. The habitat consists of Assam alluvial grassland with hilly forests. Pabitora covers an area of 38.81 sq. km. Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary is also an Important Bird Area. Visitors can visit during the time of November to March.
9. Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary
Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1998 and is located in the Sonitpur district. Sonai Rupai offers both views of- scenic and wildlife; the sanctuary covers an area of 220 sq. km. Tigers, Lesser Cats, and elephants can be seen in the spot, and visitors can visit from November to April.

10. Bherjan – Borajan – Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary
Bherjan – Borajan – Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary is a three-block district in Tinsukia. The Bherjan – Borajan – Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal habitat for the Primate species. Slow Loris, Assamese Macaque, Pig-tailed Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Capped Langur, Stump tailed Macaque, and Hoolock Gibbon can seen in the sanctuary; visitors can visit from November to April
11. East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary
East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 2000 and it is rich in flora and fauna. It is part of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council. It covers an area of a total of 221.81 sq. km. Tigers, Elephants, Gaur, Sambar, Bears, Barking deer, and Rhesus macaque can be seen in the spot; visitors can visit from November to April.
12. Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary
Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 2002 and is situated in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council district; Nambor covers an area total of 37 sq. km; mammals such as Barking deer, Rhesus macaque, Hoolock gibbon, and Wild pigs can be seen in the spot. The Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary protects 51 rare orchid species. Visitors can visit from November to March.
13. Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary
Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary was formed in 2002, The sanctuary is in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council district; Marat Longri covers a total of 451.00 sq. km. Marat Longri is an important component of Dhansiri-Lungding Elephant Reserve. Mammals include- Tiger, Leopard, Lesser Cat, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Porcupine, Slow Loris, Pangolin, etc. Visitors can visit from November to March.
14. Nambor – Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary
The Nambour Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 2003, it is sprayed into three blocks, is in the Golaghat district. It covers an area of 97.15 sq. km. Borail Sanctuary consists of Tropical, Moist, Evergreen, and semi-evergreen forests. Mammals such as the Chinese pangolin, Flying fox, Slow loris, Stump-tailed macaque, Assamese macaque, Rhesus macaque, Capped langur, Hoolock gibbon, Himalayan black bear, Yellow-throated marten, etc, can be seen in the site. 17. Deepar Beel Wildlife Sanctuary
Deepar Beel Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1989 and is situated in Guwahati, Kamrup district; it covers an area of 4.14 sq. km. Deepar Beel Sanctuary is the only Ramsar Site in the state of Assam. The sanctuary is home to more than 170 species of birds, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. The Assam govt has announced that the Poba Reserve Forest will soon be declared the 18th Poba Wildlife Sanctuary on 30 August 2024. The CM of Assam has tweeted on the “X” platform: “Glad to share that we will soon be notifying Poba Reserve Forest in Dhemaji as a Wildlife Sanctuary. The over 10,000 hectares large park contains a wide variety of flora and fauna and is a biodiversity hotspot in itself”.

Orang is the smallest national Park in Assam.
